...that’s week 29 of 2008?
Government seems to be okay with endangering the roads with old tires.

Sadly I’m not the tiniest bit surprised. I used to work for a small village. We had to refuse to use an asphalt trailer before they would agree to replace the tires. They were a nice mix of date codes from the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Try a pair with the old 3-digit code, before the 2000's!

yep, somewhere between July 13-19 2008 if I counted them off correctly.

This is what happens when you put an ancient 3 digit MasterCraft on a drift car.

What is the longest a tire should be used ? 5 years, 8 years?

Is that inflated?

I’d run then till bald or use as a rally tire.

Its deflated in the photo but it was still noticeably not round when it was inflated. To quote the driver after the run: "why's it wobbling so bad?"

The main issue is how degraded they are from temperature, UV,ozone, wear, damage, use(flat spots). Some manufacturers say 6, others 10. The issue is there are many variable that may affect how the rubber starts to degrade. I think anything past 9 years is agreed that the rubber is on it last legs and should be replaced.

Especially not Michelins. I just saw how bad the dry rot cracking on a friend’s Acura was, I was like... “R eplace them. Today.”

For some reason I read it as “I’d run it till bald then use as a rally tire."

Some manufacturers say no more than 6, some say up to ten if you inspect them yearly. I don't think any mfr endorses them after ten. I could be wrong though.

Them/then literally no difference. /S

A t some point, when they are really old and the rubber has become hard, they don’t really wear out anymore. Indefinite tire life!!!

Did the same to a pair of ancient winter tyres i had. they ran fine for 1-2 winters tho, but started going all kinds of wobbly...

how old were they?

OEM tires, IIRC the car was a 2013 or 14. It was a pre-refresh ILX.
